Bisto Shadowing 2010

CBI  established the Bisto Shadowing Scheme in 2005 to help encourage young readers to actively engage with the awards shortlist. This unique guided reading programme runs alongside the  official judging process, from mid-March to mid-May.

As Shadowing is centred on the titles shortlisted for the Bisto Book of the Year award, the scheme can be seen to promote the very best new work published by Irish authors and illustrators over this year. Every Spring we invite teachers and librarians from across the country to register their class or reading group to take part in shadowing, with over 120 groups signed-up to date.

If you are new to Shadowing you may wish to read through this fantastic article by teacher Vivienne Daly, which captures her very positive experience of involvment in the programme. You are also invited to download a 2010 Preparation Pack here .

To download an info and registration form for the 2010 scheme please click here (Word) or here (PDF) or alternatively call 01-8727475 and ask to speak to Tom Donegan.

2010 shadowing materials will be available from the time of the shortlist announcement on March 23rd. To have a look at example activcities from previous years click here.

Feedback from past participants:

What some participating group leaders have told us about the scheme:

"Enthusiasm grew as more books were read and discussed in class. A few really enthusiastic readers encouraged wider participation. Children were queuing up to get the next book!"

"Children were very enthusiastic throughout. The visit from the author also greatly helped and suggested activities helped children to engage with the books."

"This was our first year to be involved and the children and I really enjoyed the whole experience. I am looking forward to next year"
