Children's Books Ireland is delighted to announce a brand new partnership event as part of this year's festival programme - 24 Hour Comic Day! The global phonomenon first arrived in Dublin in 2006 and has been going from strength to stregth ever since. For the first time ever, this year the event will incorperate an exciting range of workshops for children and teenagers interested in honing their skills as illustrators, graphic-novelists or even Manga artists! The event takes place over the weekend 17th-18th October in the Central Hotel, Exchequer Street, Dublin 2. To download a press release for the event in PDF format please click here. Timetable - Saturday 17th October 11:00 Doors Open. Reading table and mini comic table open for full length of event. ‘24’ a 40 page comic anthology printed for the event goes on sale for 1 euro. 11.30 -12:30 Kids Comic Jam for ages 7 and under. Everyone will work together on a giant comic that will be cut into sections at the end so everyone goes home with some art. 12.30 – 13:00 Pop up book workshop. Maeve Clancey animator, illustrator and designer, will be running a pop-up book workshop, aimed at ages 6 and over. By the end of the workshop each person will have their own pop-up page bult and ready to take home. 13:00 – 13:00 (on Sunday) 24 hour comics. Running from 1 o’clock on Saturday until 1 o’clock on Sunday, this is the main event. People of all ages and skill levels will take the challenge and try to create a 24 hour comic. 14.00 - 15:00 Mini comic workshop for ages 8 to 12, with Dublin based comic book artist Phil Barrett and Derry based comic book artist Bridgeen Gillespie in which kids will each get to make their own 7 page mini comic. 15.00 - 16:00 Kids Manga Workshop [12 and under, children under 10 need to be accompanied by an adult]. Mangaka Tsuyoshi Ogawa will run a drawing workshop, to show how comics are produced in Japan and what it is like to work as a manga assistant. Participants will get to try their hand at inking with nib and brush. 16:00 - 17:00 Adult and Teens Manga Workshop [13 and up] Mangaka Tsuyoshi Ogawa will run a drawing workshop, to show how comics are produced in Japan and what it is like to work as a manga assistant.
