The 2009 Children's Books Festival truely went off with a bang, with a host of amazing projects and events taking place right across the country plus more media coverage than ever before. Now in its nineteenth consecutive year, the national Children's Book Festival has established itself as the foremost celebration of children’s books and reading in Ireland.
With over 1,600 events taking place in 2008, it is by far the largest and most dynamic festival of its kind in the country.
Following the success of last year's programme, the festival will again run for the entire month of October in 2009.
From the 1st - 31st a non-stop series of author readings, illustrator workshops, storytelling sessions, competitions,quizzes and countless other activities will be taking place in libraries, schools, bookstores and art-centres across the island of Ireland, as festival fever takes hold!
Authors and illustrators so far confirmed for this October include:
Philip Ardagh (author) - award winning creator of the Eddie Dickens trilogy and the Grubtown Tales visits Ireland to launch his brand new Henry's House series (website)

Sophie McKenzie (author) - two times winner of the Red House award for her gripping teen thrillers including Blood Ties and Girl Missing (website)

Darren Shan - the horror-writing megastar will be taking time out of his busy global touring schedule to meet with young fans in a series of high-profile events (website)

Sarah Rees Brennan - since it's publication in June, Sarah's debut novel The Demon's Lexicon has generated a storm of interest on both sides of the Atlantic - a formidable new talent (website)

Tsuyoshi Ogawa
(illustrator)- marking the first visit to Ireland of an official representative of
the International Manga Museum, Kyoto, Tsuyoshi will be appearing in a

Celine Kiernan - with the second installment of the
internationally acclaimed Moorehawke Trilogy hitting the shelves this
