Children's Books Ireland is the national children's book organisation of Ireland. The organisation was formed in 1996 through the merger of the Children's Literature Association of Ireland and the Irish Children's Book Trust.

CBI is involved in many activities and aims to engage young people with books, create greater understanding of the importance of books for young  people and resource everyone with an interest in books for children.

Children's Books Ireland Mission Statement

s_parkinson.jpg Children's Books Ireland (CBI) is dedicated to ensuring that books are at the centre of young people's lives. We resource and support those who bring children and books together. Through leadership, innovation, advocacy and celebration, we create awareness of the value and importance of books for young people.

Our Principle Activities are grouped into Three Major Strategic Aims

Engagement - Enable children in Ireland to experience the best possible engagement with books

Advocacy - Create greater understanding of the importance of books for children

Resource - Be an innovative and core resource in Ireland on books for children

CBI is also committed to involving young people in our work and in our development. We work in partnership with many other organisations and individuals, details of whom can be found in the Partners section of this website. Explore the sections of our website to understand more about our activities and principles.

CBI operates on a not-for-profit basis and is a registered charity (CHY12911).

CBI A Continuing Story, A Strategic Plan 2007-2011

boybook.jpg In 2007, to coincide with the organisation's 10th birthday, CBI published a new strategic plan for the organisation to  provide a documented framework for the organisation and its work.  This plan offers a blueprint for the future of the organisation which takes into account both its achievements to date and the needs and diversity of a changing Irish society. The roles, needs and rights of children have been carefully considered within our strategic aims. This plan sets out how we can best deliver on our role and remit as the national organisation for children’s books in Ireland.

CBI Strategic Plan 2007-2011 is available here pdf CBI stategic plan  or in paper copy upon request from CBI.

Consultation process

CBI included an in-depth consultation process as part of the development of the strategic plan. This process has enabled us to understand how the organisation is perceived, to reflect and acknowledge commitment to the organisation and to gain insight into the needs of the children’s books and literature communities in Ireland. The key findings and feedback from this consultation process have been compiled into a report, which is available upon request from CBI.
