How can CBI help me run an event with my class?
| |
Children’s Books Ireland regularly runs author events with schools and libraries around the country throughout the year, particularly during The Children’s Book Festival, which happens in October. Venues for events include libraries, schools, arts-centres and theatres. However, CBI rarely works directly with individual schools to set up author events. To be kept informed please join CBI’s e-mailing list.
CBI also offers a unique in-school guided reading programme called the Bisto Book of the Year Shadowing Scheme. School and library groups are encouraged to register with the scheme and receive relevant materials. Full details are here
For individual class visits please contact Writers in Schools (administered by Poetry Ireland). This Scheme part-funds visits by writers and storytellers to primary and post-primary schools throughout Ireland. There are over 250 writers and storytellers to choose from to come to your school on the Writers in Schools Web-Directory.

How can I get help selecting books for my school and class library?
| |
CBI publishes an annual guide with reviews of the best new children's books. This guide is published in October each year and may be available in your local library or bookshop. Alternatively CBI will gladly send you a copy. Please contact us to receive a copy. If you are a member of CBI, you will automatically receive this guide on publication. Inis magazine, CBI’s quarterly magazine features more in depth reviews of titles, as well as relevant articles and view points. Inis magazine is used by schools in Ireland and abroad to help teachers and librarians stay informed about new books.
