NCAD Graduate Exhibition 2012
Who made it out to the National College of Art and Design degree show this year? Team CBI took a trip down to NCAD’s Thomas Street campus last weekend to take a look at the work of this year’s crop of new artists and designers, and we were mightily impressed we must say!
There is such massive range of styles, disciplines and subject matter on display each year at NCAD that it’s hard not to come away feeling utterly inspired. We had a great time nosing around in the Visual Communications department thumbing through picture books from some very promising illustrators and we can’t wait to see what they come up with in the coming years!
What really stood out for us incurable bookworms was the letterpress-printed tome from Visual Communications MA student, Jamie Murphy, Albert, Ernest and the Titanic, which tells the story of the Titanic’s on-board printers. An astounding amount of work went into the book - each letter was set by hand, each illustration was hand-cut from lino and the title page is even printed in ink containing dust from a lump of coal which came from the ship’s wreck – and it really shows!
Unfortunately we didn’t make it to any of the other art colleges’ degree shows this year, so let us know in the comments if you saw anything interesting elsewhere!
